About Rajrappa Chhinnamasta Temple

Rajrappa Chhinnamasta Temple is 28 kilometers from Ramgarh, near the confluence of the Bhairavi and Damodar rivers. Chhinnamasta Temple, known as the Chinnamastika temple, is mentioned in the Vedas and Puranas and has been acknowledged as an old and potent Shakti source.

It is claimed that the Goddess will grant a devotee’s wishes if they worship Maa Chinnamastika with a pure heart. Throughout the year, devotees from various parts of Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal visit this holy site. During the nights of the full and new moon, there is a significant gathering of people here. Marriages are also performed in significant numbers.

The art and architecture of the Rajrappa temple resemble that of Assam’s renowned Kamakhaya temple. In addition to the Maa Kali temple, there are 10 temples dedicated to other Gods and Goddesses, such as the Sun God and Lord Shiva.

The hot water spring enhances the charm of this Temple, which in the winter becomes a picnic area. At Rajrappa, Dhramashala, the rest house and Guesthouses are readily available for lodging. This location has excellent road access to Ramgarh.

Temple Legend

Over the decades, numerous legends have accumulated concerning the Temple and Mata Chhinnamasta. In Shri Markandeye Purana, it is stated that Jaya and Vijaya, the two’sahyagonis’ of Maa Bhagwati, craved more blood after killing thousands of Asuras (demons from the underworld according to Hindu mythology). Even after assassinating many Asuras, their need to consume blood remained. Upon learning of their thirst, Mata Bhagwati severed Her own head, offered Jaya and Vijaya Her own blood, and quenched their thirst.

This manifestation of Devi Bhagwati became known after that as Maa Chhinnamastika or Mata Chinnamasta (meaning cutting off the head).

Temple Architecture

The Temple of Rajrappa was constructed in the Tantric architectural style. Dome-shaped temple apexes are typical of Assam’s Kamrup architecture. In the innermost sanctum, the Sanctorum is the idol of Devi.
The shrine is renowned for its historical narrative and religious significance.

Rudra Mahadev guards the Temple of Devi Chhinnamasta, Mata Prachanda Chandika’s celestial spouse & that’s why the shrine has also been elevated to the status of a Dham. On the same Temple, campus are the Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple in the east, the Narahna Mahadev Temple in the west, the Muchhkund Mahadev Temple in the north, and the Shiv Bari Temple in the south. Lord Shiva surrounds Mata on all four sides.
